Well talk about pigeonholing… All I did was create a blog, ramble on a bit about public transport in Cape Town and bemoan the fact that I (along with hundreds of other people) was refused entry to the Cape Town Civic Centre because a bomb had been found in Mayor Helen Zille’s office and they were sealing off the building to all but those who worked there and the odd person paying a service account. Now it’s been a while since I wrote that blog, but I really don’t remember making the slightest reference to my religion, or even to being religious at all (I am, but that’s no matter). Anyway, so comes the time I feel the need to update the blog and to make good on my promise to entertain you with my taxi tales and what do I find? That the supposedly most democratic institution (according to Sergey Brin, founder of Google) in the world today, aka The Net, has linked my inane chatter to an article titled ‘I am a Shi’ite’!! So how is it programmed, then? My Muslim name, the word ‘bomb’ – and hey presto! I’m a Shi’ite. Or is that I’m a Shite, as a colleague pointed out? Probably the latter, but makes you think, huh…
